My name is Jasna Nahirni and I have been living in Amsterdam for 11 years. Originally, I’m from Croatia. I have two children, one is 10 years old and the other one is 7. My son Nikola has high-functioning autism (HFA) Autism is a biological disorder of brain development. His biggest problem is communication and, what people would say in simple words, he lives in his own world. He has no need to communicate with other people. He prefers to be occupied with books, computer, geography. He determines by himself what is interesting to him.
When he was 3, he started going to a special kindergarten, that is, to a kindergarten for children with special needs, four days a week. After three years, he started going to school.
He is currently going to school for children with special needs, five days a week. Besides that, he is getting a special therapy, the ABA method (Applied Behavior Analysis), which is showing results.
I heard about biotherapy coincidentally and I decided to take my children to see whether this will lead to any result because I try with Nikola all kinds of alternative means in order to achieve some improvement.
When I came with Nikola to biotherapy, he was naturally quite restless, because there were a lot of people which was not acceptable to him. After a while, he calmed down a bit. When we came into the room, I had a somewhat strange feeling, an unusual feeling. During therapy, on myself, I felt some kind of physical activities – tingling, warmth in my legs, and a feeling of satisfaction.
After the therapy, Nikola began to communicate a little more. It happened after about ten days. Then, other people around us noticed that he is a little more open and interested in general for events in his surroundings.
The biggest change that I could notice on Nikola reflected in the fact that after the therapy could play more with other children, and the communication was much better.
